SUMATECH, INC. CNC Machinist - Night Shift in White Marsh, Maryland

The CNC Machinist/Technician supports production and manufacturing operations in accordance with the company's Quality Policies, and is responsible for programming, setting up, operating, and maintaining various machine tools to produce conforming components per customer requirements. The CNC Machinist/Technician pays close attention to detail to ensure tight tolerances are met and safety measures are followed during production.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities Essential functions include, but are not limited to, the following related to computerized numerical control (CNC) milling machinery, computerized numerical control (CNC) turning machinery, electrical discharge machine (EDM) machinery, and/or five axis mill/turn machinery:

  • Operates approved machines for production as indicated on router and instructed by supervisor.
  • Create operational check sheets and set up sheets.
  • Use operational check sheets in documenting the in-process inspected dimensions.
  • Change required tools when in need of repair when operating a machine for production.
  • Manage machine fluid levels and proper scrap/waste containers' usage.
  • Tear-down of previous set-ups and return of all fixtures and tools to their proper locations as instructed by supervisor.
  • Manufacture fixtures needed for operation.
  • Install tools, fixtures, settings, and programs into machine for operations indicated on router or instructed by supervisor.
  • Run installed program for first time making necessary adjustments to achieve acceptable operational product.
  • Save proven programs into temporary storage and notify proper administrator.
  • Uses lifting equipment to move projects and equipment in and out of work area.
  • Upon approval, use computer aided design and manufacturing (CAD/CAM) software for various tasks including:
    • Create geometry and programs for fixtures required for operation
    • Create geometry and programs from supplied prints
    • Create programs from supplied geometry.
  • Participates in the execution of the current Quality Management System.
  • Follows guidelines in the User's manual for Digital Manufacturing File Maintenance (DMFM).
  • Performing other duties as requested, directed, or assigned by supervisor.

Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills and Abilities):

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent (Required)
  • Continuing Studies and Certificate Programs (Desire but not Required)
  • College Degree (Bonus)
  • Previous Job Experience (Desired but not Required)
  • Valid Driver's License (Required)
  • Must be Detail Oriented, Self-Motivated and Able to Work Independently
  • Must be Organized and Able to Prioritize and Multi-Task

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, risk of electrical shock, and explosives. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. However, in some instances this job may require work in areas where ear protection is necessary.
