BAE Systems Engineer Sr - Materials and Process in Rockville, Maryland

Job Description

What's it like to work for the Battery Technology Center (BTC)? We are a small group of engineers, engineering technologists, technicians, and additional support staff dedicated to delivering for our customer on a variety of power solutions projects.

The position will require being a subject matter expert (SME) on electrochemical cells/batteries and developing a system of shared knowledge across engineering disciplines within the BTC team. Within the SME role, the expectation will be to act as a resource and provide guidance and mentorship to more junior engineers. In addition, the position requires analysis of materials for battery welding applications, including resistance, ultrasonic, and micro-TIG welding, to manage and provide guidance on welding operations. Finally, the position will require leading all non-destructive and destructive physical analysis of batteries, including materials analysis of internal battery components; and providing oversight and guidance on quality management processes and procedures for testing, analysis, and engineering activities.

Key duties will be:

  • being an SME in electrochemical cells/batteries

  • developing a system for shared knowledge throughout the BTC's engineering disciplines

  • providing mentoring and guidance to junior engineers

  • completing materials analysis for battery welding applications and battery components

  • managing welding operations

  • leading non-destructive and destructive physical analysis activities

  • managing quality activities related to testing, analysis and engineering processes and procedures

Responsibilities will include key duties, as well as excellent communication with coworkers and management; consistent, timely performance for all deliverable activities assigned; adherence to safe laboratory practices, as directed; maintaining a strong teamwork mentality and leadership role, with the ability to adapt to a rapid work environment with multiple projects on-going at a time; and a responsive attitude toward all other duties assigned.

Required Education, Experience, & Skills

B.S. in Chemical Engineering or Materials Science

4 years relevant experience in a laboratory environment

Preferred Education, Experience, & Skills

5 years with testing electrochemical cells/batteries and completing non-destructive and destructive physical analyses

5 years of face-to-face customer interaction within a defense contracting environment

Active Secret security clearance

Experience with resistance welding processes

Experience with energy storage devices

Experience with quality management related to engineering processes and procedures

Pay Information

Full-Time Salary Range: $84480 - $143660

Please note: This range is based on our market pay structures. However, individual salaries are determined by a variety of factors including, but not limited to: business considerations, local market conditions, and internal equity, as well as candidate qualifications, such as skills, education, and experience.
