Description

POSITION DESCRIPTION AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assists in the development and review of program technical and mission documentation (e.g., Operational Requirements, Systems Concept Paper), providing input and advice on engineering and technical issues and ensuring engineering requirements are met.

  • Participates in the development and design of new systems by assessing if available or imminent technology is sufficient to meet requirements or system concepts are applicable to fleet operational requirements.

  • Develops project planning objectives for engineering development of current and future programs.

  • Integrates cost estimates with program plans (schedules, Statements of Work, development requirements, test and evaluation requirements, etc.,) into a total acquisition plan.

  • Develops engineering specifications which define system requirements and parameters.

  • Assists logisticians in the preparation, planning, and development of integrated logistics support plans for assigned systems.

  • Provides input to T&E personnel in the planning and development of the Test and Evaluation Master Plans with regard to engineering and technical requirements and procedures.

  • Develops systems engineering management plans and coordinates with field activity tasks concerning the technical aspects of the program.

  • Evaluate and/or guide Engineering Change Proposals, Notices of Escape, production nonconformances, quality assurance, supply chain management, and variance development, review, and/or approval.

  • Address sustainment technical issues regarding the fielded fleet of weapons (Engineering Investigations, root cause analysis, development of corrective actions, performing risk and safety assessments).

  • Participate in aircraft or system integration projects for weapons within the PMA portfolio.

Requirements

MINIMUM TANGIBLE REQUIREMENTS:

  • At least ten (10) years of recent and relevant experience in an engineering position, three (3) of which must be directly related to naval systems. Demonstrated knowledge in area of engineering expertise is required.

  • MS or MA degree from an accredited college or university in Engineering, Mathematics, Physics or a related scientific discipline. Allowable substitution: A BS or BA degree from an accredited college or university in Engineering, Mathematics, Physics or a related scientific discipline and an additional four (4) years of recent and relevant experience may be substituted for a MS or MA degree. These four (4) years of experience are in addition to the required minimum of ten (10) years to meet the “Experience” requirements below, therefore, requiring a total of fourteen (14) years of experience.

  • Understanding and have the ability to execute tasks associated with NAVAIR’s Systems Engineering Technical Reviews (SETR), Engineering Change Proposal (ECP), Configuration Management, System Safety, and Airworthiness/Cybersafe processes.

  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills with working-level engineers and senior program leadership

  • Knowledge and application of critical thinking to solve problems

  • Proficient in thermal/structural/dynamic analysis of hardware

  • Proficient in requirements development/tracing/verification

  • Proficient in understanding engineering drawings and schematics

  • Understanding of software development and testing processes

  • Proficient with MS Office products

  • Self-sufficient, motivated, and proactive

  • Ability to work independently with little guidance.

  • Ability to prioritize technical work, focusing on what is critical to program/mission success, risk-based decision making.

  • US Citizen withActive Secret clearance
