Description:
The Eligibility Specialist/Authorization Coordinator will perform all routine verification functions in addition to other duties for authorizations and referrals clearance.
Verifies insurance eligibility, benefits, pre-certifications, prior authorizations, and referrals requirements for scheduled outpatient services via telephone and/or insurance websites.
Obtains patient information to facilitate the verification of the unique patient identifiers for clinical purposes, the billing and collections process, and compliance with state and federal regulator requirements.
Evaluates eligibility for alternate sources of financing care and refers to appropriate agency where possible.
Obtains any required pre-certifications, prior authorizations, and referrals from insurance companies, primary care physicians, and families.
Estimates self-pay portions after benefits have been determined (e.g., deductibles, co-pays, non-covered services, etc.).
Additional Skills & Qualifications:
Must have at least 1-2+ years of Eligibility/Auth/Referral/Prior Auth experience.
Thorough knowledge and understanding of medical billing, insurance and private pay.
Knowledge of ICD-10 and CPT coding practices
Strong computer skills, including EMR knowledge and Microsoft Office.
