Summary About the Position: This position is located in Operations Division, Chesapeake City Project Office, Bridge and Electrical Team. This position will be filled in Chesapeake City, Maryland. This is a developmental position with promotion potential to the WG-08 and WG-10 level. Responsibilities Performs helper duties in assisting employees of higher grade in the repair and replacement of electrical equipment. Assists in providing maintenance, installation and repair of overhead and underground electrical distribution systems energized up to approximately 7200 volt aerial lighting system Assists in the repair, mantenance and installation of the electrical systems on four high-level highway bridges over the canal Assists in the repair, maintenance and installation of the facilities at the Chesapeake City project office Applies a basic knowledge of electrical and electronic principals, elements and practices based on the National Electrical Code, the USACE safety manual and OSHA regulations. Additional information about transcripts is in this document. Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a High Voltage Electrician without more than normal supervision. The ability to perform the work of a High Voltage Electrician without more than normal supervision to include tasks such as: performing basic electrical repair work; following blueprints or instructions for common electrical maintenance tasks ; and/or applying electronic principles to installation of electrical equipment. - Failure to meet this Screen Out Element will result in an ineligible rating. To meet the basic eligibility, you must receive at least two points on the screen-out element indicated above and must have an average of two points on all the job elements listed below. Your application will be further evaluated to determine if you meet the best qualified cut-off referral to the selecting official. You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency in the following areas: Ability to Do the Work of the Position without More Than Normal Supervision Ability to Use and Maintain Hand Tools (Electrical Work) Ability to Use Electrical Drawings Knowledge of Electrical Equipment Technical Practices (Theoretical, Precise, Artistic) Theory and Instruments (Electrical, Electronic) Used in Shop and Trade Practices Troubleshooting (Electrical) PHYSICAL EFFORT: Frequently perform moderately heavy lifting, pulling and carrying of equipment and material up to 40 pounds and occasionally, lifting or pulling heavy cables and equipment weighing more than 50 pounds, with the help of weight handling equipment or assistance from other workers. Physical aspects include: crouching, standing, kneeling and stoop while installing, repairing, testing electrical equipment. Aerial work is accomplished by climbing or using a bucket truck. Work requires bending, stooping, climbing or standing for long periods while performing electrical work. WORKING CONDITIONS: Works outside most of the time, subject to extremes of weather conditions and in close proximity to high voltage lines and equipment. Work requires extensive pole climbing with some work in underground facilities. Subject to injury by contact with high voltage lines, broken bones in falls from poles, strains form awkward positions, and less serious cuts and bruises when handling tools and materials. Drives in all types of traffic and weather and is exposed to the possibility of serious accidents. Subject to cuts, bruises, and broken bones as a result of accidents while driving or when loading and unloading vehicles. Education Additional Information Male applicants born after December 31, 1959, must complete a Pre-Employment Certification Statement for Selective Service Registration. You will be required to provide proof of U.S. Citizenship. One year trial/probationary period may be required. Direct deposit of pay is required.
