American Red Cross SAF Regional Program Director - TEMPORARY in Baltimore, Maryland
The Service to the Armed Forces (SAF) mission is to provide care and comfort to the members of the United States Armed Forces and their families. It is the impetus for the establishment of the American Red Cross (ARC). SAF at the Red Cross is a mixture of both tradition and innovation. ARC continues to provide traditional support to military families; serve in military and veterans hospitals, and conduct emergency communication. But, we also continually adapt our traditional services and create new programs to meet the needs of today's military member, veterans and their families.
The American Red Cross is looking for a temporary full-time Regional Program Director to lead the Services to the Armed Forces program throughout the Greater Chesapeake Division. This position will be located at our chapter office in Baltimore, and the assignment will be from December 17, 2018 through approximately September 6, 2019.
Directs, strengthens and grows American Red Cross programs and services to meet the needs of United States military members, veterans and their families throughout the greater Baltimore area in accordance with Red Cross policies and procedures. This is accomplished through managing volunteers and working with other Red Cross departments. Provides management oversight of all American Red Cross Service to the Armed Forces (SAF) services within six locations throughout South Korea, developing long and short term program strategies and overseeing the implementation for programs/services in communities and on military installations.
Responsibilities:1. Performance: Provides guidance, support and assistance to Red Cross field personnel, ensuring that SAF services are carried out in accordance with specified Red Cross policies and procedures within their assigned area. Evaluates the effectiveness of programs and services and makes recommendations for continuous improvement. Provides operational oversight of special projects or events in support of SAF initiatives. Conducts SAF training and education to ensure that staff and volunteers understand the role of SAF to successfully perform duties and represent Red Cross and SAF in their communities. Through partnership with Regional management teams, provides oversight and management of MOUs pertaining to SAF service within the Division to ensure they meet DoD and Red Cross MOU guidelines.2. External Relationships & Partnerships: Builds strong relationships with key community organizations and leaders. In collaboration with Regional communication lead, increases community awareness, participation and commitment to the Red Cross by ensuring regular local media communications to the community regarding SAF activities. Develops and supports Red Cross relationships within the Division with organizations such as the Joint Family Support Assistance Program (JFSAP), military commands, military family programs, Inter Service Family Assistance Committee (ISFAC), and other community partner groups.3. Internal Collaborations and Feedback: Collaborates with SAF offices at National Headquarters to help ensure smooth overall operations. Works with Regional leadership and SAF field personnel to articulate their support and guidance needs to SAF NHQ. Participates with Regional Executive in the strategic planning process to support the delivery, sustainment and growth of SAF services and programs within the Division. Serves as SAF liaison to local Red Cross chapter leadership, providing information regarding current policies and procedures, including the delivery of SAF programs and services. Works in conjunction with the Division SAF Director to ensure programs and services are implemented consistently within their division. Works closely with SAF field personnel to develop and implement a SAF volunteer program plans.4. Staff Management: Accomplishes staff results by communicating job expectations; planning, monitoring, and appraising job results; coaching, counseling, and disciplining employees; developing, coordinating, and enforcing departmental systems, policies, procedures, programs and productivity standards. Represents the best interests of SAF staff and Red Cross offices in making deployment and relocation decisions.Minimum Requirements:Education: Bachelor's degree in business or public administration, community organization, social or health sciences, or related field is required; or equivalent experience.Experience: Minimum of 7 years related work experience. Proven track record of collaboration, facilitation, leadership and partnership management. Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work with multiple priorities are essential. Familiarity with military culture, regulations and protocol is strongly desired. Experience with American Red Cross programs and services are desired. Management Experience: Minimum 3 years of successful supervisory experience. Skills and Abilities: Must be able to operate independently, with initiative, and manage an assigned area of responsibility, with minimal supervision. Strong computer skills are required. Public speaking skills and the ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing are required. U.S. citizenship is required.
