Summary About the Position: As the Department of Defense's lead laboratory for the development of medical countermeasures against chemical, biochemical, and other acute non-kinetic battlefield injuries, the U.S. Army Medical Research Institute of Chemical Defense (USAMRICD) is increasingly called upon to provide expertise and consultative services related to medical chemical defense research and to the medical management of chemical casualties. Responsibilities Serves as a project lead that conducts research to develop medical solutions for chemical, biochemical, and other acute non-kinetic battlefield injuries. Utilizes in vitro, ex vivo, and/or in vivo models, to carry out research from concept to definitive pre-clinical studies. Develop medical countermeasures including both therapeutics and devices, as well as knowledge products and methodologies that advance medical treatments. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Additional information about transcripts is in this document. Basic Education Requirement for Psychologist (0180): Degree: Bachelor's Degree (or higher degree) in a major or equivalent in psychology. Basic Education Requirement for Biologist (0401): A. Degree: Bachelor's degree (or higher degree) in biological sciences, agriculture, natural resource management, chemistry, or related disciplines appropriate to the position. OR B. Combination of Education and Experience: Courses equivalent to a major, as shown in A above, plus appropriate experience or additional education. Basic Education Requirement for Toxicologist (0415): Degree: Bachelor's degree (or higher degree) in toxicology; or an appropriate discipline of the biological, medical, or veterinary sciences that included at least 30 semester hours in chemistry, biochemistry, or physiology, and 12 semester hours in toxicology. Basic Education Requirement for Physical Scientist (1301): A. Degree: Bachelor's degree (or higher degree) in physical science, engineering, or mathematics that included 24 semester hours in physical science and/or related engineering science such as mechanics, dynamics, properties of materials, and electronics.. OR B. Combination of Education and Experience: Courses equivalent to one of the majors, as shown in A above, that included at least 24 semester hours in physical science and/or related engineering science, plus appropriate experience or additional education. Basic Education Requirement for Chemist (1320): A. Degree: Bachelor's degree (or higher degree) in the physical sciences, life sciences, or engineering that included 30 semester hours in chemistry, supplemented by course work in mathematics through differential and integral calculus, and at least 6 semester hours of physics. OR B. Combination of Education and Experience: Course work equivalent to a major in the physical sciences, life sciences, or engineering, including at least 30 semester hours in chemistry, supplemented by mathematics through differential and integral calculus, and at least 6 semester hours of physics, plus appropriate experience or additional education. In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the specialized experience requirements listed below: One year of specialized experience at the GS-11 level or equivalent grade pay band in the federal service which includes work that involves: SPECIALIZE EXPERIENCE: Conducting research using experimental systems such as: in-vivo, ex-vivo or in-vitro models to achieve research aims; (2) Contribute to research proposals and budgets; (3) Assist with research products such as: reports, manuscripts, posters, presentations, or abstract to summarize research findings. .
